Life's not a well thought selection of things you have chosen to happen. Life might be seen as a trip, and friend can be seen as those that are traveling with us or living on your way.
Since there's no well defined destination, neither path, it's hard to see what kind of forms friendship will get. This is part of the mystery, possibility, excitement you can enjoy.
